CERN
turned on a few days ago, but some people are still skeptical that this
"scientific" endeavor has anything to do with the occult rituals, or
opening portals. But anyone who does any research will find that the
entire operation is full of occult symbolism. In this video, I share the
words of the physicists themselves, who say they are trying to open
portals. And we speak to Kris from End Times News Matrix, as she
discusses her research into the occult realm from the Biblical
Worldview. She has found that the zodiac, Mythra, the Ankh and many
other Egyptian symbolism is all over CERN and the LHC. There is just no
way to deny now, that CERN has a lot to do with the occult, to open up a
portal, to let through, according to Kris, the 8 spirits who are the 7
fallen angels.

In
landmark observations, the MUSE instrument on ESO’s Very Large
Telescope in Chile has given astronomers the best ever three-dimensional
view of the deep Universe. After staring at the Hubble Deep Field South
region for a total of 27 hours the new observations reveal the
distances, motions and other properties of far more galaxies than ever
before in this tiny piece of the sky. The new observations are allowing
astronomers to go beyond the Hubble Deep Field and reveal a host of
previously unseen objects.

Caroline
Series describes how hyperbolic geometry is playing a crucial role in
answering such questions, illustrating her talk with pictures that have
inspired some striking examples of digital art.
Caroline Series is Professor of Mathematics at the Warwick Mathematics Institute, University of Warwick

Her
academic interests are in hyperbolic geometry, Kleinian groups and
dynamical systems. Her research has been on the theory of dynamical
systems and geometric patterns in three-dimensional hyperbolic spaces.

Her
work has been recognised through awards and prizes, most recently with
the Senior Anne Bennett Prize from the London Mathematical Society. She
is also a founding member of the European Women in Mathematics (EWM),
which aims to support and encourage female mathematicians across Europe.

This was filmed at a Friday Evening Discourse at the Royal Institution on 28 November 2014.

Bacteria
are our ancient enemies, evolving ever more clever ways of
outmanoeuvring our natural defences and scientific technologies. For
millennia, a simple cut or cough could kill. With the development of
antibiotics, it seemed we would reign supreme.

But now the bacteria are again gaining ground.

With
antibiotic resistance on the rise, and the development of new drugs
having stagnated for decades, we humans might be in a lot of trouble
very soon. Why are bacteria so insidious, what tricks do they employ to
get the upper hand, and what can we do to stop them? Join Dr Jenny Rohn
to explore these questions.

Dr Jenny Rohn received a BA in
Biology from Oberlin College, Ohio, where she developed an interest in
viruses and cancer before moving to the University of Washington for her
PhD research into the evolution of feline leukaemia virus.

After
working as a researcher at Cancer Research UK and working in the
biotechology industry in The Netherlands, Jenny gained a Wellcome Trust
fellowship to study cell shape and architecture at University College
London. She is now head of a cell biology lab where she studies how the
cells of our body interact with invading bacteria.

This event took place at the Royal Institution on Friday 30 January.

SPECIAL TIME: 4pm EDT, 8pm GMT!

In
the 24 years Hubble has been exploring the universe, we have gone
through four U.S. Presidents, and 5 U.K. Prime Ministers.  For many
astronomers, this time represents almost half a career and for people
under 25, they have never known a world without the Hubble Space
Telescope in it.

This exciting hangout will take a look at all of
the things the Hubble Space Telescope has done for us, both
scientifically and culturally with Dr. Martin Barstow,
Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Head of the College of Science &
Engineering, Professor of Astrophysics & Space Science and President
of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Later in the hour, he will
also introduce us to ATLAST, The Advanced Technology Large Aperture
Space Telescope.  ATLAST is a NASA strategic mission concept study for
the next generation of UVOIR space observatory. ATLAST will have a
primary mirror diameter in the 8m to 16m range that will allow us to
perform some of the most challenging observations to answer some of our
most compelling astrophysical questions. We have identified two
different telescope architectures, but with similar optical designs,
that span the range in viable technologies. The architectures are a
telescope with a monolithic primary mirror and two variations of a
telescope with a large segmented primary mirror. The concepts invoke
heritage from HST and JWST design, but also take significant departures
from these designs to minimize complexity, mass, or both. ATLAST will
have an angular resolution that is 5 - 10 times better than the James
Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and a sensitivity limit that is up to 2000
times better than the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).

Full title:
Starspots and the dynamic evolution of hot-Jupiter exoplanet systems

When
a hot-Jupiter transits its host star and crosses an active region there
is a possibility that it will occult a starspot. When this happens a
starspot anomaly is usually seen in the resulting transit lightcurve.
Generally viewed as a nuisance, the most common approach is to remove
the affected data points before performing an analysis to determine the
lightcurve properties. However, when a starspot anomaly is found in
transit photometry it can allow a wealth of information to be
discovered. Apart from determining the physical properties of the
starspot (such as position, size and temperature) if a starspot anomaly
is found in two sets of transit photometry and is due to the same
starspot it is then possible to determine the stellar rotation period at
the given latitude of the starspot. It is also possible to measure the
sky-projected stellar obliquity of the system which can then begin to
shed some light on the primary mechanism of the dynamical evolution of
the system.
