Global police forces are working together to try to prevent the supply of so-called "diet pills" which can be deadly.
In April 21-year-old Eloise Aimee Parry, from Shrewsbury, died in hospital on 12 April after becoming unwell after she took a substance she had bought on the internet.
An inquest found that she had consumed four times the fatal amount of Dinitrophenol, known as DNP, which is a toxic pesticide.

Nationwide there have been 235% more cases from January to April than last year

Brazil has registered nearly 746,000 cases of the mosquito-borne disease dengue fever this year with nine states experiencing an epidemic, the health ministry has announced.

At 368 cases per 100,000 residents it amounts to an epidemic by World Health Organisation standards, but officials say the outbreak is not nationwide.
Relaxed prevention and an increase in home water storage have been blamed.
More than half of the cases were in Sao Paulo.
The number of cases there - the most populous state - has tripled since last year.

Potentially deadly Clostridium difficile infections have been treated with a dose of more C. difficile.

The "fight-fire-with-fire" approach by US doctors replaced aggressive versions of the bug with their friendlier cousins.
Trials on 173 people, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, showed the odds of repeat infection were cut dramatically.

quasiperiodic crystal, or, put succinctly, quasicrystal, is a structure
that is ordered but not periodic. A quasicrystalline pattern can
continuously fill all available space, but it lacks translational
symmetry. While crystals, according to the classical crystallographic
restriction theorem, can possess only two, three, four, and six-fold
rotational symmetries, the Bragg diffraction pattern of quasicrystals
shows sharp peaks with other symmetry orders, for instance five-fold."

This
quasicrystal has 29-fold rotational symmetry and is made by rotating 29
plane waves by π/n for n=1 to 29 and adding them all together. The
basic idea behind this animation is that the pixel at (x,y) is
determined by

f(x,y)=Σ sin(x cos(π/n) - y sin(π/n) + θₙ)

with
each f(x,y) rescaled to lie in the range [0,1]. The animation is made
by transitioning through several color gradients and rescaling methods,
while being parametrized by the individual phases θₙ.

The
Inflation Theory has had some extraordinary successes and is tough to
compete with. However, there is a strong trend set in motion trying to
explain everything there is. This thinking takes us from the String
Theory all the way to the M-Theory, expanding our vision of the Universe
all the way, from three to ten dimensions plus one extra for time.
According to the new theories the space-time is a flexible substance,
like a membrane, stretching and shrinking, creating ripples. When the
two different Brane surfaces touch, the big bang happens and yet another
universe comes to existence. Sounds like exciting alternative to the
conventional Big Bang theory.

case of a Calabi Yau manifold. Built in Mathematica so that it could be
printed in a 3D printer. The manifold has a parameter which is changed.
In the same time the manifold is rotated in space. Background music is
from Grieg's Arabic Dance.
