Electroweak Theory and the Standard Model | Lecture 1

Electroweak Theory and the Standard Model | Lecture 1

Δημοσιεύτηκε στις 29 Ιαν 2013

This
is the first installment in a five-part series of lectures on the
various aspects of the electroweak theory and the Standard Model (SM) of
particle physics given by R. Barbieri as an academic training course
for postgraduate students at CERN in 2004. This lecture covers the
basic structure of the theory, and the transparencies (as well as the
video itself, if you want to download it) for the lecture can be found
here:

In
order to follow this lecture, it is probably a good idea to have a
solid understanding of the various elements of quantum field theories up
to QED at the very least. Some familiarity with spontaneous symmetry
breaking would certainly be a plus. For the former, there are numerous
resources out there, for which I will provide a few examples below.

Lectures on a first course in QFT by David Tong (going up to QED):

Lectures on a second course in QFT by Francois David (going a bit beyond QED and into some of the topics here):

The
videos are taken from the CERN website, where you can find other
lectures on a variety of topics including physics beyond the standard
model, and introduction to quantum chromodynamics (QCD), and an intro to
string theory. The website can be found here:

It
should be noted that, for whatever reason, they did not record the 4th
lecture, but you can find transparencies for that lecture here:

http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDispl...

(You
can also find the transparencies for each of the other lectures, by
going to their corresponding pages- the links can be found on the above
page) Even if you don't wish to work through the material on your own,
there will be no significant difficulty you will face by simply skipping
to the 5th lecture. Enjoy!
