How interactive dark matter could affect Milky Way satellites

Δημοσιεύτηκε στις 9 Σεπ 2014
Computer
simulation showing the distribution of dark matter around a spiral
galaxy similar to the Milky Way. The colour shading represents the dark
matter density, with brighter colours indicating higher densities. The
video shows the dark matter in two distinct models:

1) "Vanilla"
cold dark matter (CDM) where there is no scattering, allowing for the
existence of more satellite galaxies around the central spiral galaxy.

2)
Dark matter interacting (γCDM) with other particles – photons – in the
young Universe, causing the dark matter to scatter. Scattering prevents
small structures from forming around the central spiral galaxy and
reduces the number of satellite galaxies that should exist.
